Radiology Procedures


Before performing any radiological procedure, the points that the radiologists should take of are: Protection from the radiation, The effects of the radiations on the human body, Performing Appropriately, Correct Interpretation of the test.

There is variety of Radiology procedures and every test is carried out differently.

CT scan- a diet is to be followed ordered. The patient is administered with a contrast agent orally, intravenously or rectally. It is a painless test. In this the patient is laid in a movable table and is slid inside a round machine and asked to hold the breath for a while. The whole process takes a time of about 15 to 30 minutes.

MRI scan- it is also a painless examination in which is positioned under a large cylindrical magnet that has a very high magnetic field. It is a safe process Radiology procedures. Some precautions must be taken before this test. People with pace maker are not allowed to go thorough this test. The whole process takes about 1 to 2 hours.

PET scan is expanded as positron emission tomography. It shows the body metabolism rather than showing the anatomy. Before the test the patient is administered with radioactive sugar and allowed to take rest so that the sugar gets distributed thoroughly throughout the body and then slid inside the scanner to carry on the procedure. It takes around 1.5 to 3 hours to complete.

Angiogram- in this test a catheter is inserted into the artery via which a contrast material is administered. If the tests are to be taken in the morning then the patient is not allowed to have food and drink water after midnight. This test is a painless one and takes near about 2 hours.

Ultrasonography- in this sound wave with high frequency are use to visualize inside the body and then received by the transducer which is viewed as an image in the monitor. USG is of many types. Pelvic abdominal, renal etc. In pelvic USG the patient is asked to drink 30-to 45 oz of water prior to the test. This test is also painless.
