How to Turn 1000 Gold Into 2000 Gold in World of Warcraft

This months gold blog questions asks how people would go about reaching 2000 gold from 1000 gold. A lot of gold bloggers have already posted an answer to this question on their various blogs however it seems they have mostly answered the question "how do I make gold" as opposed to working with the 1000g to 2000g limitations.

The issue with starting with 1000g is that it isn't enough to run my usual daily routines. My snatch list for example usually in me buying 4-6k of stock every day. This amount also means that flipping high value items isn't viable. There are a few pets and rare recipes worth 1500-2000g that I would buy up if I saw someone advertising them for 1000g in trade chat. However if I did that in this challenge I would run a very high risk of not being able to sell that item or being victim to a market crash that causes the item to devalue below what I originally paid for it.

What we need to look for is items/trades that carry low risk and low-medium reward. Items that result in instant profit such as those items that sell to a vendor for higher than you paid for them are also a bonus in this situation.

As a jewel crafter the first thing I would do is scan the AH for all the uncommon gems that can be prospected via Saronite ore that sell for under 2g, then buy all the crystallised earth for under 1g. All these can be combined to create jewellery that vendors for over 3g, resulting in instant profit. (A more indepth look at this in a later article). This can be estimated to earn 20g-100g profit every time and can be done 2-3 times a day, it all depends on how often the miners on your server put stuff on the auction house.

Next I would run a vendor scan and have a look at markets I know have a large turnover and regularly have items which are posted undervalued. Specifically the leather market. Light leather, heavy leather and knothide leather are all items that have been selling at roughly the same price for the past 6 months on my server. This allows me to set up a mini snatch list for these three items with a price roughly 25-50% less than they usually sell for. This can make a profit of 10-200g depending on how many people decided to farm leather on your server that day.

My next step would be to venture out of the city and go visit a few pet vendors. These are scattered across the old world of Azeroth, Outland and Northrend. Surprisingly the ones in Dalaran can sometimes be the ones that fetch the most profit. I'm not sure about the explanation to that but the only thing I can think of is that the older pet vendors are more well known and used than the Dalaran ones because they have been around for longer despite Dalaran being one of the most populated cities.

The above three tactics would be expected to turn 1000g into 2000g in roughly 1-2 weeks. However if that isn't quick enough there is always the option of putting on some music and farming for a bit. If you are aware of the various prices for herbs and ores on your server you should be able to find a spot that earns 400-600g per hour. If you are patient enough there is also the option of fishing. Personally I love travelling the shores and lakes of Northrend fishing the pools. I know this method isn't appealing for everyone but if you take a look at my previous articles you can see that there are various fish related recipes that result in 500-800g per hour.

So whilst there are an almost infinite way to turn 1000g into 2000g I reckon following the motto "slow and steady wins the race" is the best option. If a player has 10-100k gold then they can start branching out into more exotic methods. However it is always a good idea to have some basic bread and butter type trades that they know well enough to be able to fall back on during times when the market becomes crazy for various reasons.

A great big shout out to anyone who came here because of Marckos fantastic carnival, if that is the reason you arrived here I would love to hear your opinions on either this specific article or any of the others on this site on our forums at EGR forum.
