Steps on Cleaning a Dog Sweater

Donning your pampered pets with a dog sweater is not only fun and fashionable but more importantly, it protects them from the snowy winter cold. It has become one of the trends in pet fashion nowadays. It comes in different attractive designs making your pet look more adorable.

But what if in cases it got soiled by stains, dirt or even your pet's own urine (dogs normally get soiled easily because they do not mind to go to dirty areas). Because of the dirt especially urine, odour may accumulate on the fabric. Yes, it is true that you can easily purchase pet sweaters because they are widely available in the market along with the other types of dog clothing.

But it would be impractical for you to buy to new ones every time your pet's sweater got soiled especially if you are on an economical budget. It would definitely be a burden on your part to fit a new sweater for your dog on your budget. Your best option is to clean it properly instead of buying a new one. Allowing your dogs to wear dirty clothes will make him vulnerable to infections so it is a necessity to have his clothes efficiently cleaned and germ-free.

Here are some steps on cleaning a dog sweater:

• To remove urine odour and stains, squeeze the urine from the sweater while it is still wet. You must take it off from your pet immediately because the acidic urine is harmful to his skin. Then lay it flat on a plastic garbage bag. Get a clean rag and dampen it with warm water and add a little vinegar and baking soda.

The vinegar will remove the odour from the fabric and the baking soda will absorb some of the urine. Then blot the area that is wet with urine with the rag. Once the odour and the stain are already removed, pat it with a clean dry towel. After that, wash the sweater as recommend by the manufacturer.

• Hairs will also stick to the sweater. Removing them from the fabric is simple and easy. Lay it down on the plastic garbage bag and allow the vacuum hose to scan it over the entire sweater. If there is still hair that is left on the fabric, remove it by using a tape. Place it over the area and quickly rip it off from the dog sweater.
