Your animal wants nothing more than to be able to communicate clearly with you. You have agreed to partner with one another and she enjoys talking to you as much as you do her. Although at times you may able to interpret your pet's basic needs: when he is hungry or wants to go outside, etc., you may be left wondering, what else is my animal friend thinking?
Receiving messages from furry family members can add many layers of fun and satisfaction to everyday life. With desire and devotion, you will be able to understand him better. But first, let's take a look at some of the animal communication trade secrets:
1. Make Time Each Day for Meditation-As described in Communicate with Animals: Beyond a Whisper Part I, mediation will put you on the same wavelength as your animal. Recently, a client asked why she often notices that her thoughts race more during meditation. To her surprise, my enthusiastic response was, "Great!" Noticing anything about your emotions, thoughts, the way your body feels, etc., is a wonderful start. This is the true idea behind mediation: to take mental inventory! Most of us have an image of meditation as a peaceful Buddhist Monk meditating with an absolutely blank mind. A more reasonable goal to aim for is to simply get comfortable with your thoughts, not to eliminate them. You will be able to better discern your thoughts from those of your animal.
2. Perform a Body Scan-After meditation and before you ask a question, I instruct people to scan their bodies. This helps you take closer look at how you feel, so you can clearly distinguish what thoughts/feelings are your animal's. Begin by scanning your body from head to toe. Which body part is most in your awareness? There may be pain or discomfort, or you just may notice it. Then ask if there are any emotions associated with this body part. By doing so, you make conscious any physical and emotional processes happening in your body. For example, if your body scan reveals a churning stomach with some associated anxiety, but you then talk with your animal and suddenly notice your foot, it is a good indication he has something he wants to tell you about his foot.
3. Keep a Journal-I recommend clients do free writing after their meditation and body scan. Set the intention to ask your animal one question and then jot down every little thought, word, image, feeling, or sensation you experience. You may not know which of these belongs to you or your furry friend, or what it all means yet, but you will over time. Simply write down everything you are experiencing without filtering. Some examples of what comes to people when first attempting this exercise are: colors appear in their mind's eye; a voice says a quick phrase like, "more running time;" or feelings of excitement wash over them. Over time, these experiences will become more acute and clear.
4. Compare Notes-Have an animal communication buddy? It might be wise to find a friend that is also interested in learning more about this widely popular pet topic. You can practice talking to the same animal and compare notes with each other.
5. Receive Guidance-Whatever you do, don't give up! It takes a lot of time and practice to trust your vibes. Get support from a trusted professional animal communicator in order to know you're on the right track.
Remember, not all of us receive intuitive guidance in the same way. If you are more prone to feeling sensations, then focus on any shifts that you may feel in your body after asking your pet a question. If you are more likely to see pictures or visions in your mind's eye, then focus your attention there for an answer. Be open to colors, shapes, clear pictures, or even symbols. If you are more clairaudient, listen for a voice that may sound different or words that come through in ways that you don't normally speak. For example, I once heard a canine client say, "This is my domain." Since I don't generally use the word "domain," I felt strongly this sentence was coming from him.
Animal communication is a translation of the energy your animal puts out. She communicates with a telepathy that goes well beyond reading non-verbal cues. You are translating his messages into a language that you can understand, whether through, visions, sensations, or words. It is your interpretation of what he is saying. A good animal communicator will go to great lengths to maintain the integrity of their translations. This practice takes an incredible sense of self-awareness and ability to see beyond surface behaviors. With time and love, you too can enjoy the beauty of hearing the secret language of your pet!
